#1) What does the snake appear to represent?
#2) What do the letters under the snake represent?
#3) What do you think was the message of the creator of the cartoon?
#4) What INFORMATION can you get from the cartoon?
#5) What INFERENCES can you make from the cartoon?
1. The snake appears to represent the American colonies in an attempt to unify the colonies into one cohesive force.
2. The letters under the snake represent one of the original thirteen colonies.
3. The message of the creator was that unless colonies joined forces, the colonies may cease to exist like the myth that if a snake is cut into pieces, it can grow back together if it is put together before sunset.
4. The cartoon shows a disunited front of American colonies. From the cartoon, I can ascertain that the snake represents the New England colonies.
5.I can infer from the cartoon that there is some event (possibly the French and Indian War) that required the unity of the colonies that could possibly ruin the English colonial experiment.
